“Ni guh izhi chigay nibi onji,” I do it for the water. The walkers recite the phrase in Ojibwe as they hand off the water. In a 13-day relay, Davila-Day and dozens of fellow participants in a Native American ritual are walking the entire length of the Potomac, praying for its return to unpolluted health. They will speak to the water, sing to the water, and pray for the water. They believe the water has a spirit, and as spiritual people, they need to speak to that spirit.”
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission invites you to attend the Ninth Annual Salish Sea Native American Culture Celebration with the Samish and Swinomish tribes. The event takes place Saturday, June 7 at Deception Pass State Park on Fidalgo Island, between the cities of Oak Harbor and Anacortes.

WHO: Mohave, Chemehuevi, Navajo and Hopi tribes, Open to Public
ADMISSION: $5.00/day or $10.00 for weekend pass for Oct 4 – 6. Admission is free on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct 2 – 3.
This multi tribe event includes a parade, powwow, pageants, carnival, livestock show, fun run, tug ‘o war, traditional games of peon and shinny, food and craft vendor booths, as well as pre expo events such as a fry bread contest and a native American film festival.
The Colorado River Indian Tribes (CRIT) include the Mohave, Chemehuevi, Navajo and Hopi tribes.
Generally thought to be a relatively recent phenomenon created by Congress, the roots of Native American Heritage Month go back over a century. It was Native Americans, themselves, who first promoted national recognition of their heritage. The Boy Scouts of America then became their political ally.
