Wolastoqiyik, Mi’kmaq and Passamaquoddy: First Nations Cultures in Atlantic Canada. The geographic area that is present day New Brunswick encompasses parts of the traditional homelands of the Mi’kmaq, Passamaquoddy and Wolastoqiyik. For more than a century and a half, the New Brunswick Museum has collected examples of fine and decorative art as well as written documentation relating to the presence of these three aboriginal groups. In addition, the New Brunswick Museum is fortunate to house approximately 175 images dating between 1860 and about 1950 that provide a visual point of access into many aspects of the daily life and history of the province’s First Nations citizens.
